Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get a quote or estimate?
I would be delighted to visit your property and take a look at the work you have. I can provide an estimate (for hourly work) or I can work up a bid for the whole job. Either way you will have a very good idea of the scope of the work, timeline and the cost. Reach out to me by email or phone anytime. lehuatreeservice@gmail.com 808.333.7935
  • What type of jobs do you do?
Together with my workers and equipment, I can take care of most, if not all of your tree work needs. Here are some of the jobs we do weekly: 1) View Trim –– Many of my customers have wonderful views and they understandably want to preserve them. While a view trim can take many forms, topping a single tree or a whole row of trees is very common. I will often remove about 1/3 of the tree's height from the top. This can be done flat to the horizon, flat following the contour of the land, or trimmed organically so the cut line looks more natural. 2) Canopy Lift –– Sometimes your view is actually under your trees. In this case I can lift the canopy to provide a beautifully manicured trunk and lower branches while allowing you to see under your trees. This also allows you to walk under your trees and regain some of the space yo may of lost to low or drooping branches. This typically allows grass to regrow, which can improve your lawn and overall appearance of your yard. 3) Tree Removal –– Removing a tree entirely can be a tough decision, but it is often the right one. This can improve safety to people as well as protect your house, vehicles and other property from falling branches or trees. A common removal involves a fast-growing tree that is threatening a home, both with its roots (breaking a slab foundation) and the branches over the roof. 4) Hedge Row –– Although I do not typically work with standard height hedges, I do a lot of work with rows of trees that function as a wind block or for privacy. These can be topped to keep your view as well as reduced along the sides all while maintaining a wind and privacy block. I am very good at topping these rows in an intentional and aesthetic manner that will be lovely to look at from near and far. 5) Chipping –– In some cases I can chip trees or other woody material that is already on the ground. A giant pile of branches can quickly be reduced to a tidy pile of useful and valuable wood chips. I can chip logs 12-15 inches in diameter or smaller. While these are jobs we do all the time, almost anything with trees is our speciality.
  • How much does tree work cost?
At no cost to you I will visit your job site and provide an estimate or bid. For some jobs I charge hourly with a four hour minimum. For others will provide you with a bid, which will be the final cost of the whole job. Why are some jobs hourly and others are bid? Hourly––The scope of the work in some jobs is poorly defined and/or the client may want to add or remove items as the work progresses. In this case I charge hourly with a four hour minimum if work is within 30 minutes of Waimea, and a full day minimum (8 hrs) if the work is farther away than that. Hourly work can be convenient for the client because they can be more hands on with the direction of the work––ie watching the progress and asking for this branch or that branch removed as I work. Clients will have a very good, but not exact, idea of how many hours are required for a job because I will provide them with an estimate before the work starts. Bid––I typically bid jobs that are well defined, like a complete tree takedown. This option can be ideal for clients because they know the precise cost of the work before I start and they can budget accordingly. Jobs where there is danger to structures, landscaping, or us workers will usually be bid to account for these extraneous risks.
  • Are you insured?
I am indeed insured. I carry a commercial liability policy that will protect your property. If you need to be named as "additionally insured," I would be happy to provide you with a document to that affect, but please give me a few days to get that for you.
  • What is an FAQ section?
An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
