My Story

"I feel a great regard for trees; they represent age and beauty and the miracles of life and growth."

― Louise Dickinson Rich

I grew up on the Big Island and have been here for almost 40 years. I love our island home! I spend my summers in Alaska commercial fishing, which is where I learned to work hard and smart. Leveraging 25 years of rock climbing experience, I learned the art of tree work from my oldest friend and master arborist, Eric, 7 years ago.

With a degree in fine art, I consider myself uniquely attune to the aesthetics of tree work. I also have a masters degree in journalism but I can't say that significantly contributes to my tree work 😁.

My wife, Nicole, has a PhD from Georgetown and is a tenured professor in language at University of Hawaii Manoa. Our daughter, Cedar, is a nature nut and climbs trees better than her father. Our dog, Chewie is old and toothless and just lovely.
